why is Euro music so bad compared to American music?

    i remember when i was in Germany how cotton eye joe was like a number one hit for 10 weeks or something ridiculous like that :hsugh: or even some atrociously lame techno midi quality cell phone ring would dominate the charts, where you might get the guy to either repeat some inane English phrase over and over again, or just say "huah!" on the beat.

    this is a bit better, but only slightly

    :rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::ugh:

    also the same situation in Asia.

    Now compare similar dance type music based in the US.

    Here's Britney Spears latest single.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4DdCFczrodc

    i mean just the overall beat, layering of sounds, lyrics, everything just sounds like someone with actual talent produced this and put some thought into this, rather some guy with his fucking casio keyboard.

    and of course Britney is hardly considered cream of the crop either.

    so what gives?

    :dunno:

    Europeans used to rely on American music for inspiration, but these days they're hearing lots of our bad hip hop and it weakens their inspiration.

    Hip hop made it possible for people with very little talent to become popular and that is contributing to the lower quality of music today.

    You realize this whole discussion can't be had logically based on the premise implied in the thread title, right?

    You imply that European music is worse than American music....well, that's your opinion. I doubt everyone agrees with it.

    Also, there are a lot of different types of music both in Europe and America.

    In short, I don't see this topic going anywhere....it will just turn into a "your music sucks!" quagmire.

    i think we can come up with some objective criteria for what makes good music.

    a big one for me would be emotional content, if the song or its lyrics can take you through a whole landscape of moods and emotions, and the song lingers with you longer after you've heard it.

    here's a song i just picked off the top of my head

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XUrJdf4PbEk

    now compare that with some euro song where the whole thing just builds up to a crescendo like sandstorm where we hear some stupid synths over and over again and you're supposed to bounce around like strung out Etards at a rave :ugh:

    my favorite music is the music that gives me energy and gets me hyped up

    IMO country is the exact opposite of that, as its mostly depressing moody crap. rock is just blah.. has no real affect on me. some hip hop gets me hyped up but most of it is just dirty slutty ghetto music.

    trance/dance/techno > all :noes::noes: :hsd:

    Well Europe dominates metal, rock, all forms of dance/trance/house, etc... and a lot of indie right now so I'm not sure what measure you are going by.

    we have Rap, country and top 40 rock/pop.

    You're not listening to the right European music if that's the shit you're basing your judgement on. Like American pop music, European pop music sucks dick. It's designed to appeal to the lowest common denominator, and the genre doesn't change that, nor does it change the fact that the stuff on the charts is probably going to be poor examples of the genres that inspire it.
