seriously, i think there is a market for something like the following:

-midsize to large (but not tahoe size, more like durango) body
-well planned out functional interior with lots of space and storage
    -easy to clean interior
-REAL OFF-ROADING CAPABILITIES - NO IRS up front, hell maybe no back either and importantly - good wheel articulation/room for upgrade, nice approach angles, etc
-GOOD 4x4 system with LSD, etc - manual and electronic control
-Basic features that are reliable - no extra electronic junk thats unneeded (nav, moonroof, etc)
-MOST IMPORTANT: SIMPLE AND EFFICIENT TURBODIESEL

make it well, but don't try to make it extra sophisticated or anything, sell it for a little over $20K.. make it look good, etc..

I guess it would be sorta like a cherokee with a diesel :) Xterra, Liberty, etc are all crap.

because 95% of american SUV owners don't need a tough SUV and would rather have creature comforts.

On a side note, I'm seriously considering puchasing a 2000 Jeep Cherokee in November. :wiggle:

My biggest complaint is the lack of cargo in the back of the Liberty. :squint: That and the toyish look of it.

Let's just abandon the reliable engine, drivetrain, and practically everything else and make it a plastic clad piece of shit that nobody likes...

Ford should bring back the Bronco. Those things do some pretty wicked stuff.

But knowing all these "born again" brand names. I would come back as a re-hash to the old look but wont do 1/2 of what the old one would.

There was talk but I don't see it ever happening. The Expedition "replaced" it though its nothing like the bronco was. I'm looking for a 66-77 right now :hs:
