just built a new c2d rig for a server. loaded winxp pro sp3 onto it with a fresh install.

when i remote desktop into it, 1 out of every 10 times it will freeze on the login screen. then it will automatically reboot. upon reboot it will say that the system has recovered from a serious error

    video driver problem?

disable system restart on failure and it will show you a blue screen.

This was a driver problem in my case - in fact, it was a combination driver/MS update that did it. When I upgraded to SP3, I ran into the same problem since it included the offending update. Grabbed the lates video driver off the net and it has worked flawlessly since.

Sounds like a video driver problem to me. I had the same issue with a workstation that wouldn't allow RDP connections after Windows Updates. Turns out M$ was overriding the generic ATi driver with a Dell-specific ATi driver, and it wasn't working right. Once I uninstalled and blocked that update, it was fine from then on.
