Seriously, it seemed like it should be a good upgrade.... but i may as well have stuck with 2004. Its just as slow, has hardly any new features... and overall just blows. Why cant microsoft make a version of office that doesnt take two years to open... and i know its not my machine. I have a 2ghz c2d with 2 gigs of ram and a fresh 10.5 install, and it still takes over a minuet or two to open up. However when i boot into xp i can open office 2007 (word or excel for example) in seconds.

    /fail

that may be a over exaggeration... but it takes alot longer than it ought to i think. Then again i have like 5000 fonts on my machine, that could be part of the problem i think.

I just dl'd it for the hell of it. I have iWork '08, but wanted to see what this is all about. It loads in like 1 second for me :dunno:

I don't even need it, but I guess I'll keep it for now.

I don't know that it does.... I use it almost every day, and have no problem.

Werd. No reason to grab a torrent. The trial from the Apple website is fully functional (for 30 days). Register it after that.

The title of this thread should probably be something like the following: "Why does Excel '08 suck so bad (for people who want to do more than balance a checkbook)?"

Most of the time it is small time third party apps that slow the opening of other apps down. I know of one example with the blue screen at startup on Leo. Delete a certain third party file and your 1.5 minute boot goes to under 40 secs with no blue screen.

Does anyone have any idea how to turn off all the stupid formatting and stuff in Word 08?

I know how to turn most of it off, but it seems like when I close and re-open the application, it's all reset to default.

    Any ideas?
