Instead of "A" and "S" like Nikon?

I mean, A and S are easy to identify to Aperture and Shutter priorities.

Why doesn't Canon do the same?

I bet there's a really good reason for Canon's decision.. someone will come in and post it.

    Time...I guess that makes sense.

Any idea what the "v" in "Av" is for then? Just curious.

"Av", I can kinda understand cause aperture starts with "A". "Tv", beats the shit out of me.

Yeah, I mean, everyone talks about shutter speed so "S" would make much more sense... "Sv"?

    Time...it's just so un-intuitive.

    Just my 2 cents.

Best part of the thread is that White Stormy is such a sackrider that he puts placeholder posts in place of information. :o

:hsugh: I thought that I remembered hearing what they stood for, and thought I remembered it making sense.. but I couldn't remember what they were. I posted in here so I'd remember to check the thread later to see what the answer was. I was sure someone would post the answer because 1) A&P Canon Crew is pretty knowledgeable and helpful, and 2) Canon has reasons for all of their naming conventions, so I figured there HAD to be a reason that A&P Canon Crew was aware of.

    And I only posted once.

If you get easily confused, don't read this post, it'll fuck your mind up.

You'd think that Av and Tv would be opposite,

i.e., in Av, when you pick f/4, the aperture stays constant and the shutter speed would be the variable making it Time variable = Tv

and Tv would be where you pick a shutter speed, say 1/200 (which stays constant) and the apeture is the variable = Av.

    VALUE! not variable

and even if it meant variable.. it would be Aperture variable (where Aperture is the variable you set).. not variable Aperture (what you said).

Another reason why Nikon > Canon. You don't have this stupid confusion, you have more time to take great pictures.

Canon is for smart people who understand photography and Nikon is just for people who like to take pictures. That's why i was going to switch to Nikon. :o

I'm convinced that the camera picks a random f/stop to make random depth-of-field, every time. Randomly.
