I got back into it about a year and a half ago because I had gotten old and didn't feel as if I could handle myself in a fight anymore.

Now I basically just love to train and if I feel that I'm good enough I want to compete

A few different incidents lit a fire under my ass. I wanted to be more prepared should I need to fight again.

I remember my cousin giving me a video tape full of Sakuraba fights, I remember sitting in my room the whole night watching his fights in awe and amazement. The way he took down his opponents, jumping over them, MONGOLIAN CHOPS!, spinning back kimura, all those moves amazed me and I was hooked ever since.

I loved how he spanked Ryan Gracie. If you didn't know Ryan's pretty much the bad boy of the gracie's. It was so appropriate.

In the beginning....cause I have a real anger issue
    Later....cause I like to fight
    Now....keeps me balanced in life

I still like to fight, but I don't really get in them any more. I try to stay out of them.

geez my story is kinda long compared to the rest of ya.

i did kung fu on and off for about 10 years. about this time last year I was stuck in a BS contract with a shitty BS mcdojo kung fu studio that swindled me into joining with talk of tradition and lineage, then once I had signed it turned out I was learning stylized chinese national wushu. :ugh: The first weekend of October I got sick and was diagnosed with MS. Couldn't walk, right arm didn't work very well, etc etc etc. Luckily this got me out of my BS contract.

About that time Chechen was posting lots of MMA/BJJ vids. I had not seen the ufc since the mid 90's, didn't realize MMA had become a thing of it's own. Started watching the clips Chechen posted, then started downloading pride and UFC. I sat around lamenting my condition and told myself, "If I could just walk again, I would get into training for this. I want to fight, too bad I'm crippled." I decided that even if I was crippled forever I'd try to find a BJJ school, because I knew a kung fu instructor many years ago who was shot in the leg, and started training BJJ in the years that it took him to learn to walk again. Sounded like something I could maybe do.

A few months later my coordination of my right leg and arm came back, and I started searching for a good school that met some of my unique requirements, and started training.

Here I am a year later, in a few months I will have been back in training a full year. Best shape I've ever been in, and hopefully within due time I'll be able to get in the cage and see what I'm made of.

cliffs: I have MS and I wanna smash fuckers

reminds me of the story of that little toddler who didn't have use of his legs, but he heard Billy Ray Cyrus's "Achy Breaky Heart" and got up and started to dance suddenly :eek3:

of course, chechen would be Billy Ray Cyrus here :o

anyways, to you...awesome way to motivate yourself

    Good shit man.

I guess if I wanted to give the longer version of my story....

Growing up I never cared about sports, exercise, or anything like that... all I cared about was computers and videogames. I was always skilly despite how horrible I ate and how little I moved in a day. That all came to an end when I started smoking pot... the munchies caught up with me and I shot up from 150 to 200 in less than a year. I quit smoking, but the weight never went down.

I had a passing interest in martial arts, I always liked Bruce lee films, so I started training in Kung Fu to get in shape. After a few months of that, I started looking for martial arts videos on various p2p networks. One I found was called "Pride Bushido". I watched it and it turned my world upside down. It didn't look like what I expeted at all. So i started watching more Pride and eventually UFC and just started absorbing it all. I bought bjj books, trained with friends on weekends when I could.

It reached a point when I knew I wanted to be in the cage someday. I managed to break my contract after locating a local bjj club and I've been training there ever since.
