    it's either 2wd or 4wd. All trucks produced today are RWD.

    4x4 = 4 wheels. 4 drive
    4x2 = 4 wheels. 2 drive

    well, for example, my truck can technically be RWD (in 4x2 mode) an AWD (when in computer controlled 4-high mode) and 4x4 when its in 50/50 locked state at 4-low..

    :)

    because a PT 4x4 truck is still RWD.

    so if you were to use RWD for a the 4x2 version, how would you know if you're talking about the RWD 4x2 version or the RWD 4x4 version?

    4x2 = RWD/FWD fixed
    4x4 = part-time or fixed 4WD

    Why not just call the 4x2 RWD. It's not like the AWD Escape can be switch to FWD manually. I could be wrong, but I don't think the 4x4 Explorer or Expendition can be manually put to 2WD.

    Why do you need to emphasize there are four ends to axle(F-350 dually is a four wheel vehicle, because there are four ends to the axles) by saying 4x(n)?

    It's a given that consumer vehicles have four wheels

    FWD, AWD, or RWD>4x4, 4x2

    Look I'm driving a 4x2 truck. The only problem is FLW/RRW(front left wheel and rear right wheel) drive fucking sucks at :teh: handlobraesing. It flipped over :wtc:

    Oh, and 4WD != AWD

    It is for two axle vehicles. ALL wheels on two axle=four wheels.

    4WD /= AWD in 3, 4 or more axled vehicles.
