Why do so many runners/joggers/walkers do it in the street?

This drives me nuts. Driving around town I keep see runners, joggers, and walkers out in the street instead of the sidewalk. Is there something I'm missing here? The street is for cars, the sidewalk is for pedestrians people. I'm sick of dodging dudes wearing bright green tights powerwalking in the fucking street when theres a completely empty sidewalk right next to him.

It's bikes around here... They ride 5 mph in the middle of the road, blow stops signs and run red lights and no-one seems to care but me.

That shit drives me crazy too. "We want to share the road...we just don't want to abide by any of the rules of the road"

asphalt is softer on the joints than concrete. it's minimal but if you run a lot it makes a differnce.

i only run out in the streets when theres no sidewalk.. and even then when i see a incoming car i get my ass on the grass cause i know some crazy fuck is out there that'll run me over for fun.

as for biking.. no way in hell i ride in the middle of the roads unless i have to avoid a pothole.. and even then i obey all traffic laws.

must got a bunch of fags in your town. just run em over. ez

bullshit excuses...unless you are just going around an obstacle. when I ran distance for a few years I never had any problems with sidewalks. if its a big enough issue they should find a track to run on.

There are no sidewalks where I live, and if you find any they're too busy with food carts and people to run on. I mainly do kettlebell workouts, Muay Thai and run the elliptical or skip for cardio though. My endurance improved dramatically when I dropped running for functional exercises.

they feel special when they cause traffic and people have to swerve around them. Its mostly about attention. Its their fault if they get hit too

I see the f'ing Lance Armstrong wannabes with the full spandex suits all over my city driving like 4 across in the street and then wonder why there are so many instances of people clipping them and knocking them off the bike. They think strength in #'s work but you're not going to beat a car

Buy a hand-held air horn and when you get real close to the pack unleash holy hell on them.

I ride my bike legally. In the middle of the street. In TN we're entitled to a full lane of traffic and MUST obey all the traffic laws. That's the catch, 98% of riders out there don't get that. I've seen people get pulled over for blowing stop signs and speeding on their bikes. Po-po dont play 'round here.

I honestly hate bikers that ride in the middle of the rode, I don't see the problem with running/biking in the shoulder though. I run 3 miles a day and Im not trying to go up and down curbs, avoiding fucking tree stumps, low branches etc etc...So i just run on the shoulder of the road, If i hear a car ill jog up on the grass quickly but other then that running in the street is a lot easier on my body. I think everyone hates the biker gangs in spandex though.

+1 for more obstacles on sidewalks, more harsh on knees, and that sidewalks dont cover the entire distance you may be doing

downhills FTW. I've done 55mph...in a 40 zone. It happens. I've seen guys break 70 downhill in a big peloton. Some of the craziest crap you'll ever see.
