Why is it suggested that people drink a gallon of water a day for bulking? I know water helps with muscle growth, but is that much necessary?

I don't do it for bulking as much for cutting or looking leaner.
More water in, more water out.

i guess it depends on your size as well.. are most of you about 200lbs?

i know that just drinking 8 cups of water + however many cups of other fluids feels way more than enough for me

The reason you drink a gallon of water while bulking is because getting up to pee every 2 hours through the night also allows you to get in an extra 4 meals :mamoru:

Probably because you are also training frequently. I forget about the ratio is-- like for every once of water loss during workout, you need like 1.5-2 onces of water post workout to keep you hydrated. Translation: if you lose 2 pounds during workout, you should try to drink about a 48 oz within in the next couple hours. This was coming the nutritionist on campus who is responsible for the meal plans for all athletes on campus....

    For those that don't know...

The "8 cups of water a day" thing is bullshit. Yes your body needs that kind of hydration, but you get like 90% of it thru food intake, you don't really need to drink much to "maintain hydration"

There are other benefits to drinking water regularly, but it's probably not the difference between proper hydration and dehydration, considering you get most of your water from food, and drinking basically anything but alcohol will have a net hydrating effect.
