Why do people only do preacher curls halfway down?

Nearly everyone at my gym (and every other gym I've ever been to) who does preacher curls goes from the top of the motion to halfway down and then back up.

Now, the angle of a preacher curl bench makes it so the bottom half of the motion is difficult. In fact, at the top of the movement when your forearms are perpendicular to the ground, it requires absolutely no biceps involvement to keep them there because of the structure of your upper arms and the bench. So why do people only do the easiest part of the movement? Is it like people who do 1/4 squats so they can use more weight?

And the other thing that pisses me off is that all these people have bigger arms than me, but yet I do my preacher curls with a full ROM (and pullups, too; I even posted a vid on that one).

This brings me to another thread I'm going to start when I get time to discuss why every single person I've seen with big muscles has shitty form and doesn't use a full ROM.

I used to hate preacher curls because at the bottom when you first start and your muscle is at full extention... it's SO HARD to get the weight moving and it hurt my tendons.

Now I do them all the time and I love them!

EDIT: When I see what I think is shitty form and the dude is bigger than me, I just :wtc: and keep working out.

I don't like to bring it all the way up where my bis are relaxed. Like to keep it under tension during the set.

Maybe you should stop worrying about what everyone else does and just hit the fucking weight.

He said these guys had bigger arms than he did. "Worrying" about how they work their arms seems like a perfectly reasonable thing to do. It didn't sound like he was sippin' on the haterade.

he said it pisses him off... not "what am I doing wrong"

Fuck, why not go talk to one of the big guys then instead of making a thread whining about it?

Maybe they've been working out for 5 years with shitty form and they've gained anyway. The point is, it doesn't matter. If you've been working out for less than 2 years, you're going to be smaller than almost everyone that works out semi-consistently... so just deal and keep hitting the weight.

If after two years you have a lagging group, you'll have more specific things to say than "Hey, those big guys over there do shitty form and they're bigger than me... WHYYYYY!!!"

There was a thread about this recently. Some people thought that using heavier weights with less than perfect form stimulated the body to grow more than perfect form exercises.

That makes sense. I mean if you're muscles are particularly weak at a certain point in the range of motion, why not avoid that point? Your flexibility may suffer, but we're not all athletes...

Word.. rev preacher curls are great.. They seem to bother my wrists some if I go too heavy though.
