I go to college and I was talking about joining the Navy to become an ET. Anytime it comes up I always hear this line "You are joining the military because you can't do anything else..." Then they go on to tell me if I want to work on electronics I should just do PC Repair.

I find this sense of the military being last resort quite insulting. Sure I could keep going to college and maybe for my last two years I will do NROTC but if I join as enlisted it is not because I need the money or can't find another job. It is because the Navy is the only way to do the type of work I am looking for.

I joined the military straight out of high school. It is something I always wanted to do. I served for five years and I am glad that I did.

brack said what I was going to say.

I'm not sure what your job is but unless its Nuclear....or some work on a submarine the job is probably in the other services as well.

The military isn't really painted in a positive light during these times. Nothing you can do about it. Fuck peer influence, do what you feel is right.

I am on my second year of college. Don't really enjoy college but I can make it through the rest of it. Not sure if I should do two more years and ROTC then officer or go enlisted soon as E-3.

You would be an idiot if you went E if you are already on the road to O.

    This is pretty much why.

Society sees the military as un-educated mindless brainwashed social rejects.

As much as the military might fuck up its members, most of the time it will produce a better well rounded individual at the end of his/her enlistment. The skills you learn and the experiences you get while serving are hard to come by in the civilian world.

You will NEVER see a 19/20 year old kid in charge of other people in the same magnitude as you will see in the military.

I am two years through college. Still would have to sign up for ROTC but I assume acceptance rate is high?

i would just consider those people to be talking out of there ass unless they have their own experience...mostly what i have seen from college kids is that they have no experience but their opinion is of someone who has experienced everything the world has to offer, they will probably change their mind on things 11ty times before they even get out of college just like everyone else does
