Seriously...unless you carry a revolver...I mean, if you needed to pull and defend yourself...15+1 and all that crap is WAAAY too much. You have a nice spot in jail if you discharge 16 rounds in public.

    See my point??

no, I do not see your point.

Also, mags are the number one cause of failure to fire/feed....

    and 15+1?
I have 13+1, some people have 7+1, some have 19+1
Should the people with 7+1 carry and extra mag and those with 15+ not?
    What about a BUG?

He was still shooting back. :ugh:

    What about multiple assailants?

Shit happens and a spare mag takes up an inch or an inch and a half on the belt. Big deal.

Cite a law that states that there is a limit to the number of times you can fire a weapon in a defensive situation. :ugh:

    Obviously..

I'm speaking as if you have 15+1 and was able to use those for whatever reason...There would be no instance I could ever think of right now that would cause me to have to reload and got back into dumping rounds. We aren't in Haiti. If you released 16 rds either you can't shoot or at war.

Because the magazine in an semi automatic pistol is a high percentage of why/how a pistol fails. I would venture to say 90% of most common gun jams can be attributed to the magazine.

So it's not about having enough rounds, it's a means of having a back up plan to one of the most important components of a semi auto pistol.

Also, if a jams occurs, it's easier to drop the mag and load a fresh mag than it is to get a mag that's already in the gun to work, trust me on this.

OK..../thread cause you are missing the point. If you were being attacked you shot 16 times already NO JAMS, NO FAILURES....why on earth would you need to reload and engage AGAIN? Cops should be near by now. If not and you have already shot 16 rounds and the threat is not GONE...you're a bad shot or you shooting a marching band.

You said "You have a nice spot in jail if you discharge 16 rounds in public."

How is that not saying that?

Why, otherwise, would 16 rounds get you in jail?

What kind of stats you looking for? If you dont think shooting 16 times in lets say a Wal-mart parking lot is excessive that explains why you just bought so much ammo.

I bought so much ammo for classes and practice.

Maybe you should take one and it might open your eyes.

I think it's excessive is all...especially if you arent shooting multiple assailants.

well the point I would make is how do you know you are going to get off 16 rounds without issue? it's just being prepared. The initial question was why cary more than one mag. You never leave the house knowing your 16 round mag will not malfunction when you need it most.

You have no idea what I do for a living or what classes I have taken, so why make such a statement?

I don't know anyone whose taken any classes that would make such idiotic statements as "carrying a spare mag is stupid" or "omg why did you buy so much ammo." :ugh:

You don't and that's a fair question, but it was a scenario I came up with that you had, so comments were to be geared to such a situation.

"Why do people carry extra mags??"

Then change your thread title. Don't predicate the discussion on the basis of capacity when that is not thre reason most people carry a spare.
