why do people arch their back while benching

    Almost everyone in my gym does this. Seems like a pussy way to bench. Maybe it's an image thing because you can do more weight like this? :dunno:

    any one notice stretch arm strong in the background?:eek3:

    i dont arch my lower back, i try to keep my whole back on the bench and make sure im hitting the chest.

    but im gonna have to give it a try and see if it really helps pushing weight on those PR's

    for power, i'd s ay arch your back some.. help with the leg drive, etc..


    if you're working purely on physique.. keep a flat back and dont recruit any muscles besides the ones you're trying to build..

    arch helps with leg drive for putting up more weight with a typical pl bench movement. little to no arch stresses the muscles more you're trying to target to build muscle
