I always find it funny to hear some guy with a 60 something Camaro/Mustang talk trash about exotics. I'm not talking about 1/4 mile tubbed race cars. Just your everyday show car at the fair. :hsugh:

    Because lets say for instance....

A 1970 LS6 Chevelle ran high 12.90's to 12.80's on Bias Ply's from the factory....

That is rolling out. Most of those cars weighed 4,000lbs and ran on the worst tires ever created.

If they had the chance to actually have some of todays technologies, they would be MUCH quicker.

    I've seen the same thing.

An '07 Altima with the v6 is faster than 90% of those "muscle cars".

Guess that is why I was never really into older cars. I've ridden in a lot, they're always disappointing.

    They weren't that fast stock.

Good tires, good suspension, new crate motor = totally different beast

But I will also say there are SO many old people that THINK cars are fast but NEVER have owned or ridden in the cars that were ACTUALLY Muscle Cars.

They were like the ricers of yesterday. Think of the guy who bought the 66 Mustang with 289 but thought he had a 428 Cobra Jet in it! :hsugh:

I will go look, also, they did a nice show about Showroom Stock Drag Racing on Speed. They had quite a few cars running the 12.80-13.0 barrier.

Hemi Road Runners, Chevelles, etc. I need to see if I can find that program as well.

As well as my boss had one of these as well as his 69 Z28 with 12K miles on it

It's fairly well known that 60-70's cars didn't break 13's. and  @ you for calling me a magazine racer when YOU'RE the one that introduced quarter mile times to the topic.

my point is that most people assume that those cars were godly and so fast b/c they didn't have technology to hold them back, when they really weren't that fast and technology has only helped make cars faster.

"Today's technologies" include restrictions that would totally neuter any of the power they might have had.

sheeyt, this guy holds some world record at 13.74...IIRC, that was around the area that my 1990 300zx was running. i'm sure newer cars have no problem getting into that arena.

A long time ago, I had an Olds 442 that would routinely click off mid 11 passes without the juice. Of course that was with a different intake, some head work and a cam, but the fact was that car still ran solid 13s stock when it was on the slicks. Many old muscle cars were fast. They also have something that todays cars don't,.. character.
