    I don't use anything, no belt/chalk/gloves.. I've only done 2x BW deadlift though :sad2:

If my weak fat ass can pull 500+ without straps then so can you.

I used to think that but it started to bother my elbows and I started to twist on real heavy pulls. Hook grip ftw!! Also, it feels like my ROM is shorter with a hook grip.

Use chalk, it makes such a huge difference.

I couldn't DL past 275 x1 (and that was barely) because my grip would give out. Just the chalk added about 50lbs to my lift.

I wish I could use it for everything.

And I agree, unless you are lifting an insane amount, straps are gay. Up there with gloves I think.

Bah, your thumbs get used to it, just give it time.

About those callouses: trim them. Then they won't rip off.

I have small hands, which makes hook gripping suck a lot more. I don't really have any grip issues with deads so I don't have a reason to switch over at this point.

    On the road. Again.
Overhanded, no belts, no straps. If I can't do it like that and have good form, I'm using too much weight.

I don't want to DL a fucking truck, but my grip is so weak I have to give the pickle jar to my wife to open.

Gotcha.. it has something to do with being a thinner bar and being more flexible, right? The bar movement gets your momentum going up before teh weight even leaves the ground -- something to that effect?
