I got the impression the 3.8L was a good engine for them. Now the Impalas have a 3.5L or 3.9L that are less efficient.

3.5 = new 3400 3.9 = new 3800 iirc. Take it for what it's worth :hsd: You can still get the 3.8 in Buicks.

If you really want a 3.8, the Hyundai Azera comes with one.

I don't understand why they would trade a decent engine for a less efficient one. My Impala has the 3.8 already.

What makes an engine with .1 liters more displacement less efficient? Does it have a lower torque/liter ratio?

The 3.9 doesn't get near the mileage the 3.8 got.

    Emissions, refinement.

The 3.8 is an old engine makes a racket, hates to rev, and doesn't run smoothly compared to contemporary designs. It's also getting harder to get it to meet emissions.

The Caddy 3.6 is directly replacing it in my GM vehicles now.
