A new laptop is probably out of my reach for at least another year so I wanna upgrade my RAM to get a little better performance since I multitask a lot. I have an HP Pavilion dv4000 with 1 GB of RAM (2 512 sticks). I found a couple brands that were around $150 per 1 GB stick and then others that were around $60 per 1 GB stick. Why are these prices so different? Are the cheaper brands really more crappy?

for a laptop, buy either corsair or crucial... whatever they charge, that's the price for a good stick.

While I don't agree with his tone, Jolly does have a point. RAM isn't a hard-to-find product: go on Newegg, open the RAM page, and input the specs into the search engine: Corsair, DDR, SODIMM, 1GB, then click Search. Done!

I opened up my laptop and the RAM sticks have "PC2700, DDR, 333" written on it so that's where I went on newegg.com. This had the most 5-star reviews and was the "Top Rated."

    Crucial 1GB 200-Pin DDR SO-DIMM DDR 333 (PC 2700) Laptop Memory Model CT12864X335 - Retail $54.99

I guess this is a good deal then?

You'd think after getting banned so many times, Jolly would learn to control his temper. Kinda makes me think it's a pathological thing, that he can't really help it.

i was curious on where you saw that $150 per 1GB stick?
that price and specs is either DDR3 or high-end DDR2 memory for desktops.
no 1GB laptop ram on newegg reaches that price.

    nevertheless, do get crucial.

I haven't seen the second one, but it's the first one he was referring to.

There's also the one where picard gives you the finger.
