Why are GT3's so rare?

Or is this just around my area :dunno:
I see the 996 turbo's around often. There's even a local Carrera GT. But I don't think there is a single GT3 around town at all.

Most people in America buy Porsches because they don't want a Corvette for their midlife crisis.

You can have most 911s as a daily car, but not the GT3...
Even if there are some around, you won't see them as often...

there aren't a lot of them at the dealerships to begin with. also, most people don't use them as their daily drivers, so you're not going to see them very often.

Then again, I see most of them when I go circuit racing at Eastern Creek/Oran Park/Wakefield Park, so that might explain it :hs:

But there's no doubting that there are hundreds of them in Sydney... Seems like the vast majority of them are used as Porsche intended too :bigthumb:

Most in the states are used for regular track work is my guess. I have seen only one on the street.

I have seen a few on the street. I think that most people would rather have the 911 turbo because its more comfortable around town.

The 911 GT3 (996) with the older style headlights were not officially sold in the US. Of course I've seen them for track use but I am sure a few were driven around on the roads, which was not allowed. And people may think they have seen GT3's running around, but the regular Carrera was available with the GT3 look (rims, GT3 spoiler and side skirts).

But the revised GT3, with the newer turbo headlights and different wing is officially sold here in the US. Thats why you can see those occasionally.

    Hope that helps.

Was just at my local P-Car dealer last night looking at 997s. They had 2 new GT3s and a Carrera GT on the showroom floor.

Did they only have the 2 GT3s left when you came home? ;)

As a 997S owner and someone who briefly considered the GT3, it's tough to justify the GT3 as a street car. It doesn't have the creature comforts and delivers a brutal ride.

Ultimately, it's an insanely cool but horribly impractical Porsche.

I'm guessing because they are 2 seater coupes only. The GT2 was made more yearss than the GT3.
