why doesnt ford just do it in the first place?
same with the pully?
Did you watch Horsepower TV today?
overspinning a blower=not good for longevity. ford does a lot of stupid things with the computers. the 2003+ cobras arent the only ones that have retarted computers. theres a lot of other stuff you can nitpick about.
reliability and driveability
Then they'd have to warrenty the car with that much more power.
i have heard the ford guys talk about it before, but honestly didnt think it was that easy
but yea, I was flipping through the channels and the ricer modding is always funny but there was none on today
low hp = low insurance
high hp = high insurance puts it out of the price range of the target demographic.
it already has the name and the hp to have high insurance. Insurance companies know cobra = high rates
lots of reasons.
setting the bar too high for the next model
having a driveline that can handle the extra hp
politicians having sads about 400hp off the floor street cars
The only ricer stuff I've seen them do was that Civic. Lately it's been domestic stuff as usual.
fuel consumption is a reason im sure they thought about
I dont mean that show specifically...import tuner and all those other shows. When bored I'll switch in hopes of a good laugh
same thing with most audi/vws
the 1.8t gets about 30hp from a chip and the s4 get like 50 iirc
Why didn't they put 15# of boost in it either??
I'd heard that Coletti had to detune the engine due to federal noise standards or something. They had to restrict the intake and exhaust for it to be quiet enough to pass these tests. In Coletti's words when the s/c cobra came out "this thing's breathing through a straw"
word....once you rate a car at 400hp the insurence goes through the roof...its rumored that the 390 they are rated at is low anyway.
Too bad the car doesnt handle well
I'd say not too bad, considering the platform was created in '79. (I may be wrong about the date )
Yeah, they stopped using that platform on Mustangs in 1994.
then all the magazines and articles I've read all these years are wrong?
fuel consumption and emissions whould have to be the biggest reasons.... ford changed the recommended oil from 5w30 to 5w20 to gain .01 miles per gallon which really helps ford as a company when the goverment looks at them as a company for there total MPG their cars, trucks adn SUV's get over all.
Er, no. The Fox body style ended after 93, but the same platform has been around since 79.
The Fox platform is still in use... granted it has been updated and modified a few times.
theyre already underrated. My guess is it would be the insurance thing of 400hp that has been mentioned already. They did the same thing in the late 60's with the Mach 1's and SS Camaros, Mopars etc.
Your average 03/04 cobra will dyno about 365 - 380 hp at the wheels, which is significantly more than 390 at the flywheel. It isnt uncommon to see 70 - 100 more rwhp with just intake and exhuast mods since they are so choked from the factory.
