From what I've heard, because the 50 f/1.4 is nearly as good a lens as the f1.2 L but for a fraction of the price. Canon is purposely keeping them out of circulation so they can sell more L lenses. However that's just internet talk as far as I know.

    i can't justify spending so much more for a 1.4 or 1.2
    at least for my use.

If by boring you mean a lens that closely reproduces what the human eye sees, that is tack sharp, works wonders in low light and is one of the most widely used lenses then yes.

Had my 50 1.4 for 8 or 9 years, great lens. It's a little long for my 1D MK II but I'm expecting to go FF within a year or a little more. Waiting on a 5D MK II and to see what else emerges.

I need to send it in to get tuned up though, the AF doesn't work 100% anymore (gets stuck at the close focusing end)

Might want to look in to the Sigma 30mm f/1.4. If I got a Rebel for a small carry camera I might get that lens.

    I've read the 28 F/1.8 is soft.

    Anyone have it?
