you'd think that you'd want to look good as well as feel good right?

why are most of you now concerned with power and not development

you all will probably say that is your main focus is to look good as well, but I am not blind, I am reading your posts...so don't try and bullshit me.

I train for sport mainly... but my nutrition is basically a bodybuilder's diet. It's all shades of grey to me. :dunno:

but the real question is 'would you be able to lose it' if you had to?

most don't have the dedication it takes to become a bodybuilder...thats why there is powerlifting :mamoru:

I have lost a decent amount of weight so far so I could make it into a lower weight class for pl'ing so I can lose weight if needed.

Though I doubt I would be able to get to the low levels of bf needed for comp, I love eating and drinking way to much.

everything you just described is the thrill I get from competing...and I see progress every week too when dropping BF...

    its all relative I suppose

you make good points, but I'm just wondering why all noobs that come here go right for power and try and hit PR's more so than overall development instead.

with training properly comes both strength and development...but if you concentrate on just one thing, the other will lack...relatively speaking.

I concentrate more of development and definition now, I used to be strong as fuck...now I don't care, but I was lucky enough for development to come from lifting very very heavy...actualy no thats not true, I trained like a bber from the start, but with lots of weight.

    so I'm a bad example....but I think you get what I mean

I'm mostly the bodybuilding way. Or I was until I got sick. I don't know, I'm just fairly naturally strong and lift more than 95% of the gym anyway. I'd rather look diesel.

And I would love to compete at some point. I was going to try to hit 235 maybe even 245 and cut back down to like 220-225 shredded. That would almost be contest worthy, methinks.

Damn when I think of how far I had wanted to go. Last summer I cut to 190 and although I looked ripped, I couldn't take how small it was anymore. I was all for that "small and toned" look. Heh, not anymore.

    "dying Breed"

honestly because its easier to see strength gains than it is to see physical changes...say what you'd like, I do have the utmost respect for PLers but its a whole different world to be a BBer...

so you say dying breed, I say rare breed...ones that have the heart and dedication to do what it takes.

PL'ers use BB'er techniques all the time to get to a weight class, just like some BB'ers used PLing moves in the beginning to build mass. Goes both ways. There both laughable by the public, but they never laugh when your hosting there car or slapping them with a delt now do they

I became interested in more pure strength training because I was tired of being weak. Now that I've built up a decent base I'm focusing more on the bodybuilding side of things.

It wouldn't do to have someone my size benching 250lbs.

BBing a lot more mental than PLing is...

maybe thats what separates the men from the boys when attempting to do it...

I don't want to get off my point of why most that come here think its cooler to press 200lbs than it is to BE 200lbs under 10%...I just can't understand that really...

because dieting down to extremely low levels of body fat and standing on stage posing has absolutely no appeal to me.

Seeing as I'm still working my way down from being an ex-fatty to my goal of around 11-12%BF, chris' compound exercise filled PL routine works great to help me towards that goal and keeping/increasing my strength.

Once I reach that goal, who knows, maybe I'll decide my main goal is size rather than strength, but thats down the road.
