It popped into my head as I was reading my last couple of issues of American Riflemen "forget about the mom's what about a million gun march". While it is highly unlikely that the next president would be able to gain the votes needed to reinstate the AWB right away, it would certainly be their strategy to wait a couple of years until they hit their stride or appoint a new supreme court justice. In this case, we should all be prepared to show our support in defense of our constitution. I have considered proposing this to the NRA to gain nation wide support and set the ball in motion. However before I do I want an idea of how realistic this would be, and how many would actually show up on the mall in front of the capital and demand that congress respect the wishes of our founding fathers, not just on the 2nd amendment, but on all.

I'd love to do something like this, but realistically, I wouldn't/won't be able to attend.

This should be titled a "Show of Force" march.

Someone brought up this idea on The Higher Road forums. Dress up in patriotic outfits and carry wooden M16 cutouts. They wanted to hold it on Patriot Day. But Patriot Day falls on the anniversary of the OKC bombing and most people thought a bunch of gun nuts marching on the Capitol would "scare the white people".

I'd support a march, but I don't know if I could attend. It would depend on when it was held. I'd definitely march in my own town in support of it though. Maybe do a Million Gun March all around the country.

I'd be in for sure. I would definitely suggest something to the NRA because they can take the idea and get people organized to do such a thing if necessary.

And I think all those that now would say they cant be there, it may really come down to what is happening at the time.

I would hope, that if there was a real danger to the loss of some of our rights, such as a ban on CCW like Obama wants, or a very restrictive AWB, you guys would be able to find a way to make it work and be there to support it.

I live outside DC so its not hard for me to get there. I can understand those that might live in California or other parts of the country it becomes a much more serious expense of both time and money. I can say though, that if there were some serious miscarriage of justice going on, I'd find the time and money to make it to another state if need be.

I'd say, please leave an open mind about whether you could make it or not.

I was thinking about doing something like this close to memorial day. I figure it's fitting since so many of our veterans died fighting for the ideals set forth in the constitution of out country. I would figure that a week before or after would be good, and might lead to higher turnouts. I'm sure the NRA would have a better idea on this. I just want to get some real numbers together from locals, and board members, before presenting it to them as a viable action.

I'm in CA, but if the circumstances are right, I would definitely try to make it to something like this.

I do think it does show some legislators that people in IL do care about pro-gun causes and really gun laws in IL as a whole still aren't terrible, we hold off all sorts of dumb laws every years. I'd like to see foid go away, the 1-3 day waiting period go away and for us to get concealed carry. We still have no awb, ammo tax, mag ban, etc that are pushed for every session though.

But you did more or less hit on my point. The nation's fifth most populated state and a state that always has its firearms under assault can't get more than 2000 people to drive like 3 hours tops to demonstrate at the capitol. Take that nationwide and I think you'll be really disappointed with the outcome.

And honestly I'm not sure gun owners would do it when facing a real legislative crisis either. Its hard enough to get them to write letters to or call their reps and the newspaper. I think most of the group that would care to begin with would take their DC trip money and buy more magazines and lower and make dramatic molon labe posts on the intertubes.
