    nobody, he's not fighting apparently

Matt Hughes is fighting Matt Serra on the NYE show

maybe he could fight Jon Fitch or Diego Sanchez though

I'd like to see that. They can't have GSP sitting on his ass for 6 months waiting for his title fight.

He's not fighting until the title fight, which will take place in march.

How can he not fight until march? That makes no sense.

he most likely will get the winner of Serra/Hughes. it would be a waste if they give him a fight in between and he loses, that would completely fuck that division up even more.

Also taking 6 months isn't out of the ordinary, Chuck went 6 months between beating Tito and losing to Rampage.

because we have to wait until December for the welterweight title fight, even though it should have happened in August or September (i.e. tonight), they wanted to hype it up with a stupid show, it's pretty much bullshit

true, but Matt Serra won the title in April, him and Hughes have been injury free, this fight didn't need 9 months of hype, it's not Silva vs. Liddell

But it did need to have the entire season of TUF to be over for it to happen. I guess they could have picked different coaches but I have a feeling that this is going to be a really kickass season :x:

i totally agree. GSP definitely got the shit end of the stick. It's pretty lame Serra is going 8 months before his first title defense because of the Ultimate Fighter. I honestly don't think the show is going to increase PPV sales or add hype to the PPV.

I'm pretty sure he already fought and beat karo.

If he was to fight anyone in between, Diego would be more intriguing with the camp drama and Diego has some creative grappling skills.

he is. dana said on the scott farrell show on sirius today he won't be on the montreal card unless GSP WANTS to fight. if he was GSP he woudl sit back and wait for his title shot.

i can't imagine how hard it'd be to pass up a fight just to wait longer for a titel shot

word is that there will be 2 events in canada next year. maybe they should just hold the title shot for gsp in his home town. ya know, since franklin gets to be the challenger in cinci.

What would be the point of having an event in Montreal if GSP isn't even going to fight? Why wouldn't they wait to have the event during the title fight.

agreed. the first show they did in ohio was in franklins backyard and featured mostly mid western fighters.

I like Cote, hes an exciting fight, but he's not a main event.

Granted it will sell out, but it would be amazing to see GSP fight in his home town, he would be so pumped for that and it would be a great fight.

He doesn't have to necessarily fight for the title in Jan

Besides the fact that I'm a huge fan of GSP, I don't think he deserves a title shot yet with only one win since his loss
