So.. I just spent $5,000 on an alienware computer. Takes 10-20 business days to ship it out and then another 3 days to receive it. :-\ Thats the only part that sucks. But anyways. I have my hard-drive in this computer that i need to get files from before i give it to my gf. What should i do....

    a) put the HD from this computer in along side my other 2 HD's that come in the computer (yes i have an IDE controller) and just buy another HD and stick it in my current computer.

    or

    b) use norton ghost

what sucks is that you paid 5000 for a computer that you could have spend max 1000 dollars.....

The AW should come preinstalled with an OS. Just network the two computers and transfer whatever files you have. Format, reinstall a fresh copy for your girlfriend. Last thing she's expecting is your porn on her donated machine.

I'm sure you could build whatever computer you just bought for $1500 or less. 5k is a lot for a computer!!!!!!!!

Not always. Consider if he bought a dual AMD MP setup with 2GB RAM, 3 200GB drives and dual 18" LCDs. That would cost about 5k once you add all of the other items in. I know because I went over to AW.com and made one myself. :o

my friend build almost exactly same computer for 1000
except LCD screens and that extra 120 gig hdd

so i am guessing those lcds 1000 each and hdd, lets say 200-300

so that comes out to around 3200 - 3300 dollars

    I hate to flame..

    .. but $5000 for a computer? :ugh:

Especially since technology grows each second. Give it 6 months, and it'll be worth $900...

    No thanks.

Each of those CPUs is $200 (from PW). Each monitor is $1300 (from PW). The video card is $500 (from PW). The full version of XP Pro is $300 (from MS). That's $3800 right there. Add the rest of his stuff and he got a sweet computer for about what he should have paid. Yes, 4400 is a lot for a computer. But if you had the money to spend on one, you would too. :p

You do see what video card he got and the fact he's got 2 AMD MPs, correct? Those three items alone cost $900.
