I just bought a house and knew I'd regret not getting the multi-room speakers wired in. Anyway, it's done now and I'd like to have music in a total of 3 rooms. Don't need anything fancy as far as quality, but I'd like to play XM or iTunes through AirPort Express.

What the most cost-effective way to get this done?

Honestly, the cheaper, good way to do it would be a system like Sonos or Yamaha's musicast.

Everything communicates wirelessly and you can play different sources in different rooms, or group it all together in one zone using the remote. You can browse all your music, use your sirius/xm online accounts plus othere sources. Works really great. All you need are the speakers.

Entirely too expensive. I was looking for something along the lines of a transmitter that could be hooked up to a receiver. The transmitter would then transmit whatever I was playing to speakers in other rooms.

    Is there anything like this?

If sonos is too expensive for linked whole-house without wiring up all the speakers to a single amplifier, 3 xm boomboxes.
