I own a medium size forum and one of my mods went apeshit and started offending members, he has control issues. I tried to get him under control to no avail. In the end I actually had to ban him.. Anyways, now he has demanded that I remove all his posts or he will get getting a lawyer and is planning on suing.. In my eyes I would assume I own all the forum content, is this true? Does he have any legal recourse? Thanks

just remove his username from the posts.. that way they aren't connected to him, but you don't lose the content.

that's if for some reason you really don't want to lose the content.

if it's just shit like "yesterday I saw a hot girl on the street", why keep it?

He has over 600 posts so it would make some threads confusing... I dont think anyone really owns their user name so I dont think it matters.. I guess I just want to stand my ground with this psycho.. :mamoru:

Its the standard VB agreement. Only really talks about me not being responsible for this and that. Does not say anything about this issue, wish it did now..

OT has methods in place to both remove posts or remove usernames

I already did ban him but I dont think he has any more rights to his username then I do. I could go onto any forum and use his user name with no legal action. It in no way really referances him as a person..

make sure to remove his personal details from his account/profile.

why the hell are you so stuck on keeping his username as is?

on OT if a user gets deleted but their posts are not, it just says "n/a" as the username

I dont know, because he is adamant about it being changed. I have already taken all sorts of stuff down because he demanded it. I need to take a stand somewhere or he will never leave me alone.. You are right about the details in his profile. Thanks

I wouldn't do shit until you receive an actual demand letter from an attorney.

Fuckers always pull the "i'm calling my lawyer" bullshit when they're pissed, he's probably just being a faggot

kinda the equivalence to somebody saying "you have to forget everything i've said or I'll sue you." Fuck 'em. Leave it all there. You don't "own" what you say or type on some petty forum unless it's something of legal value (such as sharing proprietary information). You publicly shared it.

he can't do shit. he posted words on the INTERNET. it'd be like telling CNN to remove some rude comments you posted on a story. they don't have to, and you don't have to

Just remove details from he's profile, change the registered email addresse, and just either change he's username or just delete it and all the stuff he posted will still appear just as a n/a username.

let him threaten what ever he wants majority of the time it's all talk.
