I am going to register a couple domains, who generally offers the cheapest private registration?
namecheap is free for the first year
1and1 is free period but they suck for registrations. my opinion does not reflect everyone else's however.
they suck for hosting too
If you have more than 2 domains, just geta PO Box.
I swear to god I want to kill the people at Godaddy for making a 2nd company just to have private registrations. If you transfer like 6+ domains to Godaddy, you get a free year on each. If you used fake info like me, then you will be unable to log in to your privacy account since they never give you account info, and you need to request it. You cannot cancel the service unless you log in to it, so I was forced to renew 2 domains for the privacy because of this shit.
Fuck Domains by Proxy. Assholes.
just wondering, could you ever get in trouble for just providing fake info?
i would not do it, but that is me
You COULD lose your domain if it has invalid info and someone reports it. usually you just have to fix it.
dreamhost had free privacy for life (as longas you use them to renew your domain) but it just uses the dreamhost general info... if thats bad...iunno...
i bought my first domain from them, and its who is is strill private
my other 12 domains are non protected cause i used godaddy....
Godaddy has free private if you buy 5 or more domains at once I think.
Dreamhost does it for free with the purchase of a domain (~$10)
I can't believe people like to go with shitty places like 1 on 1 and deamhost to try and save a buck
I don't see anything wrong with dreamhost for domain registration.. Never had issues.
shitty company had them for hosting, would not trust them with any domains after dealing with them for a year, just like 1 and 1
1and1 is the worst registrar i've ever used, i ended up just letting the domain expire and registering a new one
what's so bad about 1and1 domain registration?
Their hosting sucks, but I have never had any problems with my domains from them...
their company is shit like their hosting, just like their customer service, there is no way I would trust them with anymore domains
I totally agree, I would never use them for hosting, and their customer service couldn't be any worse. But how could they possibly mess up domains?
Aren't all domains stored on the same name servers over the world?
I am saying I would not trust them to register them or with my money, i cancelled my hosting with them after a year being paid, never owed them money, i went to renew and transfer my domain and they sent me a bill for over $200 saying they they would keep domain unless i paid it, i paid godaddy to get it for me, after it would be released by 1 and 1 and they renewed it and kept sending me the same email for 6 months trying to get more money from me
so fuck they, they are a shitty company and would never use them to register a domain to save a few bucks
did you get that domain for free with their web hosting?
nope i paid for that one, i never use a free one for a business venture
i've reported someone and godaddy basically said they dont give a fuck. they have to find it themselves
the guy had a phone number with an area code that didn't exist.
namecheap is the same way
the only time i have used it was for porn sites, but other than that i have one site with it, and that is because browning gave me a domain and it had a year free of it, so once i renew the domain it will not have it on there
how much does a reseller account to do that cost?
about 20 a month, not bad, i do about 10 or 15 names a year, but something to think about doing in the future
