Who manages a dev team in india?

    i've been offered a position like this and i really want to talk to people with offshore experience. i'm posting about it but i'd really like to be able to talk via IM

    I worked on an outsourcing deal in Bangalore, and lived in India for 6 months. The biggest problem you will face is cultural. You can't expect a go-getter attitude, nor can you expect your Indian workers to have that 'machine connection' that your next-door neighbor computer dork has. This means process is important, and you will proceed much slower with more bugs than you are used to. You've got to motivate them to do good work without pissing them off as a westerner. Real tricky.

    ill be doing this from a distance, i will not be travelling to india frequently.

    what level specs did you give them so they could develop?

    I didn't handle that. But they better be god-damned detailed and not change, if you're dealing with Indians :) And you better do QA statestide.
