I'm contemplating getting an AK that's higher quality and more reliable than my WASR-2 (which in all fairness, is great for a WASR). I haven't been able to convince myself one way or the other between another 5.45 AK or a 7.62, but what I really want to know is who is making a solid quality AK out there?

I did some thread searching and didn't come up with a good answer. I want to hear from AK crew where I can get a quality AK without paying more than I did for my AR.

Arsenal, saiga conversions both are good choices among others

Ohio Rapid Fire puts out good stuff for 5.45. Arsenal also has good stuff in 7.62x39 Not sure how much you paid for your AR, but Arsenals are going to be $500-$700. 5.45 guns are going to cost a bit more, but it's worth it for the cheap ammo IMO.

Check AIM Surplus for 7.62 Arsenals.

:werd: plus the VEPR conversions. Plus anything from a good builder using bulgie or tantal kits is usually good quality.

Arsenal's and saiga/vepr conversions usually run close to AR prices $700+ If you check the akforums and arfcom ee might be able to find something like a ban era slr95 for around $550ish those are top notch, made in bulgaria and milled receiver.

I have a Yugo underfolder, it's probably on the lower end of the middle category. I've put a couple thousands through it with no problems. Paid $429.

You can find very high end AK's, but personally I wouldn't spend more than $600 for one. 5.45 ammo is dirt cheap, I think AIM had 1,080 round cases for something like $120.

I am really torn between calibers. :hs:

I can get a new Saiga 7.62 for $550 at AIM, or spend a bit more and get a new 5.45.

Are Dragonuvs C&R? I'd love one of those as my 7.62 gun, but don't want to see them end up on an AWB II.

You already have a WASR2 no? I'd go with a x39 so you have both calibers.

    PSL's? not c&r and they're x54r not x39.

    I know they're x54r, but I figured I'd ask. :hs:

Yeah I have a WASR-2. It has jammed on me a few times before, but I broke it down, cleaned, and lubed the thing before I last had it at the range, and then had no problems with it. If I go for 5.45, it will be for a reliability and quality upgrade.

The KBI imported military style Dragunov's are c&r, however there are only about 100 in the country and they cost +$10,000.

I'm currently trying to justify an AK74 from Ohio Rapid Fire... :hsd:

They're backordered about a month right now though.

What mag's you running? For some reason some of my rifles don't like bulgie mag's. Swapped springs, messed around with the lips and had it matching exactly some of the EG's that work fine but still wont run in some of them. :hs:
