Who makes the best pump shotguns? Or maybe the better question would be who make the best shotgun for the money? I have heard Mossberg <sp> is good but I thought I would ask around for opinions

What are you going to do with it?

If it's just for home defense, for the money you won't beat a Mossberg 500 or a Remington 870.

Remington is better than mossberg if you use the gun a lot.

I've had an 870 for almost 30 years. I've put more than 7,000 rounds through it with no problem.

If you just shoot a few hundred rounds a year a Mossberg will do just fine..

I have used a Mossberg 500/590 for work and I will put it right next to the 870 in quality and durability. Either will do the trick. I picked the Mossy because I prefered the safety and slide lock release button locations over the Remington's.

Home defense, target shooting. I really don't hunt so I wouldn't use it for that. Mostly I would just go shoot at clay pigeons and such

Have had over 10,000 shells through my 870 in the past 7 years. It's been cleaned three times; you do the math.

Beretta makes some of the best hunting autos.

I'd take an M2 Field, SBE, or Browning Gold over a Beretta anyday :o Especially since M2s and SBEs are available in left handed. Can I borrow $1100? :hs:

    Can't go wrong with a 500 or a 870. i prefer the safety on the 870.

for home defense, you could also look at a Winchester 1300 Defender or possibly one of the Charles Daly's(not sure on their quality) if you're on a super tight budget.

sorry, if you cant get the job done with two shells you have no business hunting birds of any kind.

O/U's and S/S's are hunting shotguns. (except for turkeys, then you need the three inch shells and an auto)

and the beretta 390 and 391 are eleventy billion times nicer than the guns you listed.

When you say hunting shotgun I think good OVERALL guns, i.e. a gun that you can use to hunt upland, squirrels, rabbits, waterfowl, turkey, etc; Next time be a little more vague when you say hunting.:fawk: And no you don't need an auto to hunt turkeys, alot of people use pumps and alot of guides use O/U 3.5s :hsugh:

Hawkin Industries; at least I think that's the name. And, while I can claim that the fit and finish looks pretty darn good, I can't give much info on reliability because, while I've had mine for about 6 months, it hasn't been shot yet...

true, you dont NEED a 3 inch shell and an auto, but its what most people use. im kind of a beretta fanboy. considering how much goddmaned money i have spent on their stuff. they make a FINE turkey gun too.

but be a man and hunt rabbits and squirrels with a .22
