Put my deposit down. Car will be here in November.

    Comfortline(mid range) w/ 6 speed

I test drove the car and after driving about 50 feet I was sold on it. I continued to drive it for another 10 minute. Itwas fantastic.

    Has anyone else tested it?

Was following one of those TDI jettas or passats the other day, don't know VWs so can't say what year, but didn't look older than 02. Fucker was blowing black smoke as if he had a head gasket issue. I am not sold on diesel "cleanliness". I'll believe it when I see it.

I won't argue with you because I haven't done any research on this. It "seems" dirtier to me.

The smoke is just burned wax. It's the same shit that comes off candles. It has zero net effect on the environment.

It's the greenhouse gases and toxic gases that cause problems, and fuel that emits toxic exhaust is illegal now, and diesel burns less fuel so there's less greenhouse gases that come from it.

The previous TDI did not have much in the line of exhaust emissions control. The new 2.0 TDI is a step up in this area. Do a google search.

FWIW, my 1986 Jetta turbo diesel will only blow black smoke when its above the redline. Otherwise it just smells a bit funny.

I want to visit India one day. Im sure they still have a lot of dirty diesels on the road. If an engine is not maintained, it can be quite smelly and smokey. But I have never seen a TDI that blows excessive black smoke. Never. Ive seen older turbo diesels(early MKIII's) that have charred back bumpers from all the carbon in the exhaust. But if you actually maintain the thing and replace injectors, have a pump free of leaks, etc, it will run healthy until it dies. Its the odd douchebag that just keeps adding a couple liters of oil every fill up and people are too cheap or ignorant to replace clogged injectors. Or too cheap to get engine work done. Or whatever.

Or you can improperly tune the injector pump + turboboost. This can quickly lead to excessive black smoke if not done correctly. Which melts rings and makes for the problems associated with dirty diesels.

Yea I don't see it on there anymore. It used to be there in the build section.

You can still build them on www.vw.ca

Base model TDI w/ 6 speed here in Canada in $24,275. $2300 premium over the 2.5 gas model. Deal of the decade right here.
