If I wanted a car from Australia or England or somewhere that isn't in North America, who would do that? I tried a quick google search and the word "import" returns too much Jap crap info.

    pain in the ass

cars are very hard to import into the us. u have to pay all sorts of fees to gwt them inspected and on the road. for instance if it is a model that was never brought into the states you would have a lot of trouble, because in order to get it inspected, they have to have US safety data on it, which it wouldnt have... theres places like j-garage that import ricers. i dunno about australian/english imports.

They'll have to crash one to ensure it meets U.S. safety standards.

    Yup. Sucks.

Bill Gates had to crash a Porsche to get one imported first.

I'm surprised you know what a Holden Commodore is :eek3:

Get a VL SS Group A (Walkinshaw).. injected 5.7 litre, 4 bolt main bearing caps, twin throttlebodies.. in 1988 :eek3:

I drive an ordinary VL V8 :hs:

If your thinking of the 959 he got then...
No, he and a couple others got a law passed. The reason the "show car" rule exists is because of him wanting a 959.

The US crash testing regulations requires a minimum of 4 cars to crash. Plus the cars you need to do whatever research you have to to make the cars pass.

    Anyway, on topic:
    http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/rules/import/ELIG010906.html

Thats the list of eligable cars for importation. Anything not on the list requires crash testing. If you dig around on the NHTSA site you'll find a list of (RI) Registered Importers. They are the only ones who can legally import cars into the USA. There is only 1 RHD car that is currently able to be legallized without crash testing, at that is the 1995 Skyline GT-R (R33), and Motorex lost their license recently, so currently no RHD. That leaves out the UK and Australia for cars. Converting them to LHD still means crash testing.

I'd love to see the UTE's come back. The original El Camino/Falcon Ranchero's were stolen from the OZ utes. Plus the current generation of 'em look damn good.

Note to Ford: Bring the US your Inline-6 turbo engine!
