Pretty much the same here. My agent took all my serial numbers of my stuff. it didn't change my rates they just wanted them noted.

about $150ish a year last count to cover $14k worth on a personal articles policy set up only for my photo gear.

They said they wouldn't even cover that much under my renters, and it gives me more/better coverage iirc.

I just got a quote for $350/yr from Hill & Usher to insure about 7k worth of stuff. I advise not to go under your home owners insurance.

I have mine insured via homeowners but I agree with this. If you have a couple of claims you may have your HO insurance policy cancelled. You may also be denied a claim if you were shooting for business and not for pleasure.

As soon as I start making money, I'm buying a business policy.

I got a question. I owned a home for over a year but recently sold it to my parents. Can I get my gear insured under their home insurance policy?

HO ins. covers mine too, but i sent them all the receipts and serial numbers. It was about $5,000 worth of stuff and my policy raised about ~$40/yr. I feel comfortable with how mine is handled, but it seems like some people on here dont feel as secure.

do not just use your homeowners

if you are a non pro, get personal articles policy, usually $1 per 1000. This usually covers theft, loss, damage etc

if you are a pro, you NEED liability coverage in addition to gear and everything else they provide.

Hill and Ushire or Tom Pickard's Group Insure are the best

also those of you that have it under your homeowners insurance, make sure you've declared/pay the extra $$ for the coverage that covers you professionally, not just as hobby gear. also liability insurance for anyone shooting for profit these days is pretty much a must.

Those dicksmears at HO never returned my email OR phone call.

I submitted VERY basic insurance requirements, and they sent me back some absurd proposal with all kinds of extra shit that I didn't need / request. I email and called them back saying if they could produce a proposal more in line with what I originally requested then I'd be interested.

    Never heard anything.

Since I use mine for a business, I had to take out a different policy but its still only ~250 a year for $14,000.
Covers my equipment and if anyone is ever hurt through my equipment and tried to get money from it.

Which company, I'm looking for something other than HO, but they've bought nearly every keyword associated with professional photographer insurance.

if you have renters or home owners, get a separate rider for your gear.

    I should!

I have a 24-70 2.8L that's been dropped twice now. First time needing repair. :(

Edit: First time, not my fault, second time...
