I think photography is awesome but for some reason I have never owned a single camera.

I mess around with friends' digital P&S's from time to time and my aunt has quite a few decent film SLR's that I have played with but I don't own anything.

Every time I get close to buying one I do a bit of research and get turned off by the amount of gear and equipment that everyone seems to believe you 'need.'

I thought the D50 seemed cool but what is the minimum accessories or equipment(or camera, actually) I would have to purchase to enjoy using it.

Not looking to be pro just to have some fun.

The barest minimum I would say is $850 without flash, and that's going to be a used 20d or XT with a 17-50mm 2.8, memory card and whatnot.

That's the problem, I can't really justify $1,000, especially at once.

What about printing the actual pictures themselves?

why should we? go fuck yourself.

lol now that the obligatory ot response is over...do you even like photography? what are your goals for it? do you have the budget to buy the gear comfortably or will it affet your savings/relationship/life?
Oh, i just read the part of your post where you said people believe you need all the gera. Guess what, skippy? You do. If you won't want to spend dollars on the gear, pick up a 200 dollar point and shoot and call it a day.
Don't forget the good batteries, bag, tripod, digital media and cleaning equipment. It's not the cheapest hobby out there, but can be quite rewarding.

    Ha ha.

I already stated I like it, I already stated it would be a hobby, nothing serious, and I also already stated that having to buy a shit ton of gear is not feasible.

I take it being able to read is not a requirement? :noes:

I could get a camera cheaper off ebay and Costco isn't local enough to make it worth it.

    Oh well.

You can get a D40 kit and be set. The amount of joy you get out of it depends on how much time you're willing to put into learning how to use it. :dunno:

    'douchebaggy posts'

Now I now you didn't read it and just gave an obligatory, I'm an asshole answer.

How is your first sentence(for lack of a more appropriate word) a question?

'go chug a load of cock if you don't like it.'

You're quite the mature adult aren't you. Don't bother giving a real answer I can already tell it won't be worth a shit.

he did give a real answer, if you can't even bother to spend $1000 on the hobby it's not worth it to get a DSLR and you might as well get a high end P&S like a G9 or S5

a lot of the people on this forum have thousands of dollars in equipment, it's not a cheap hobby, and all of your crying about how expensive it is on the internet isn't going to change things

I can kinda see where he's coming from.

I was only kinda interested in photography when I started, and could only afford ~400 for a 300D+kit lens... You don't have to spend a lot to get a DSLR and a taste of the good life.

But to the threadstarter, be aware! Photography is a slippery slope... I've probably got $2000 in my photobag right now, and I barely have anything I want.
