Who are some actors/actresses you think are underrated?

Discussion in 'Entertainment' started by FstrungUCoutT, May 19, 2004.

  1. Pretty much just name some actors or actresses that you think don't get the credit that they deserve.

Jennifer Connely - she was awesome in Requiem For A Dream, awesome in House of Sand and Fog, and even good in A Beautiful Mind yet no one really talks about her.

Ben Kingsley - I just can't say enough about him. I think he doesn't get mentioned because he doesn't really do many big budget Hollywood movies.

Leonardo DiCaprio - I know, I can't believe I just wrote that either. But in all honesty, he gets a pretty raw deal cuz he's been in some godawful movies. but I thought he did a great job in What's Eating Gilbert Grape and he was pretty good in Catch Me If You Can.

That's just a few. I'm sure I'll think of more as I'm driving home from work.

I think almost all stars are over rated. It is the character actors who are underrated.

William H. Macy, Scarlett Johannson (from Lost in Translation), and John Turturro (just look at his performance in Oh Brother Where Art Thou?)

Totally agree, Jeremy Piven is a great actor and I'd love to see him in more stuff.

    In addition:

Benicio Del Toro - was amazing in Traffic, Way of the Gun, 21 Grams, almost every movie I've seen him in, he's made it better. Only exceptions: Excess Baggage, The Pledge. I don't know if you can call him underrated, though.

Giovanni Ribisi - also great in everything I've seen him in.

Jake Gyllenhaal - Watch October Sky and Donnie Darko, all of his movies minus Bubble Boy have been great.

Ron Livingston - Not only can this guy do comedy (Office Space), but he was superb in The Band of Brothers mini-series.

Ron Perlman - Better known (now) as Hellboy, City of Lost Children is a great movie to watch with this guy.

How about Christina Ricci? She has been in some incredible but not well known flicks like "The Ice Storm" and "Monster".

I have to agree with the thread starter about Ben Kingsley -- all of the movies I have seen him in I digged, like "Gandhi", "Schindler's List", and "House of Sand and Fog".

I also think Ryan Gosling is rather underrated, but I hated him for being in "The Notebook", which was a below average movie. His other movies where he plays urban murderers were way better, mainly "The Believer".

:werd: great actor, doesn't get the credit he deserves. and as a side note, i think he'd be an excellent replacement for pierce brosnan as bond. only prob is he's already played a bad guy(in Goldeneye).

You know, if Sean Bean was Bond, I'd actually start watching Bond movies.

When I saw the title of the tread, she was the first person I thought of.
Jim Carey, also because everyone knows the guy is funny, but then he does stuff like the Truman Show and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind it pulls it off beautifuly.

Best scene in a movie ever. I love Jennifer Connely, I hate the people from the hulk for putting her in that movie, forcing me to buy it, and watch it just to see her :-(

Tony Leung - one of the only good actors from Hong Kong

Laura Linney - her time will come :x:

Tupac - damn, hes dead, he was good.....

    :wtf:

every movie i've accidentally seen him in he was terrible. Poetic something, juice (omar epps was fantastic in it though) hopefully i've never seen anything else by him that i can remember. I'd vote the bullets that killed tupac the best bullets ever if such a poll ever came out

i agree... he is awesome... but i think one reason why he doesn't get enough recognition is because he does mostly theatre now.
Julie Andrews is another underrated actress... my favorite movie of her's is "Victor Victoria" She does a lot of theatre too.
