A brand new DSLR for $485 or a used one with ~2200 actuations and some light scratches on the body for $385?

I'd normally just get the used one since it'll be used once I play with it anyway, but I'm not too familiar with used DSLR's (e.g. things to look out for).

If you're getting a used DSLR for 385, then it's obviously not a magnesium body. Check for any scratches or damage due to it being dropped. Plastic isn't as protective.

    D80

Both D80's...don't know the owners since it's off eBay (30% live cashback is how it's so cheap). My wife is pushing me to just get the new one.

Damn, that's not a bad deal. If the used one is in near mint shape, I'd so go for that. Otherwise, you can get the brand new one for not much more.

Yeah...other than being dropped, how could a DSLR get scratched? I was thinking maybe it was put in a bag with other things, but I can't see the scratches in the pictures.

It's off eBay, so the last thing I want is to buy a camera that has been dropped and doesn't work right and have to deal with the hassle.

Of course I had to look at the 40D's too...they're pricier by $100-$200, but I'm still considering it.

The bottom of my 30d got scratched on the pit wall of Road Atlanta last year. Didn't drop it, just drug it along the wall by accident cause my strap was caught on my bag.

A hundred bucks more for something that's never been used?

I'd grab the new one. Peace of mind is pretty valuable...

I wouldn't buy anything used on ebay.

and btw the cashback takes 10-12 weeks to receive. you aren't eligible to cash it out from your live.com cashback account for 60 days after ebay acknowledges it, and then it takes up to 14 days to receive it via paypal.. then another few days to get it into your bank account.. or up to 2 weeks to receive a check from paypal.
