I am looking at a new camera for taking newborn baby shots. That is the main function,
    First is a SONY
    second is a Canon
there a lot of difference, I am leaning towards the Canon, but I like the looks of the Sony. I can not find any info on a battery for the Sony so Is it built in?
Thanks for any and all help.

1st off, do you buy you groceries at a hair salon? why look at cameras at a car audio site?

the canon isn't going to give you much control at all and will all but have to have the flash on which may be an issue not to mention look like crap.

is this for your own kid or a job?

the sony is even more this way, very limited functionality, fine for candids, not much control.

no I do not buy groceries at the hair salon! I was price shopping and had just looked at Ritz camera got an email, so so I checked their prices.
All I want is a small compact camera, with a large display, it will be used for taking baby shots. So we want a small camera with good picture quality. Simplicity is also a key.

Well, I'd wait until you knew for sure. You don't want to risk buying a Canon and then have a girl.

Canon, only because I am biased. But Canon's image quality can't be beat, even in the point & shoot market... although there are *some* fuji models on par or even better in the IQ department.

no, you've been grabbed by the balls by them. Show me examples from two comparable cameras between Canon & Sony or Canon & Fuji and show me that Canon can't be beat.

Come on now...most of the people that buy them aren't going to notice any possible small difference between the two anyways.

And to the OP...either camera will do you just fine and if those are your only two choices, i'd chose the Canon because I don't care for that style of camera (for the Sony). But i'd look for something that gives you at least a little bit more control over the camera.

I'd replace your Sony with this one...

Thought I just said some Fuji's may have on par or better IQ over Canons...

You can easily tell the differences in IQ with noise levels shot at higher ISO (iso800 & iso1600). Most users use the Auto setting on P&S, that includes auto ISO...

Canon has always had good noise control, in both P&S & DSLR.
