do not rely on a gainer shake, but if you need one, I like MEtrX size up, cytogainer was good too, Nlarge2 is decent

if you have to, Nlarge 2, unless they changed their nutritional break down, had the least about of sugar per serving in it. But yeah, real food ftw.

    What about this:
Milk, peanut butter, oats and whey protein

Blend it up and you can easily get 1000 calories and 70g of protein into a large glass. Divide it up into two servings if you want. It's also a hell of a lot cheaper than most weight gainer shit which is crammed with sugar.

 Thanks, couldn't have figured that one out on my own. Its the first semester of college and I'm somehow managing to lose weight, despite the fact that I feel like I'm eating more than I ever have now. Its impossible to track my calories here, and I want to protect my gains

If I were home I'd go the blender/oats/peanut butter route, but with no blender and no car at a college in the middle of nowhere its a little hard to get what I need

    Here's an easy solution :
    1) Find a fat/broly dude
    2) stalk him and find out what and how much he eats
    3) do the same

    Or :
    1) Eat more.

in all honesty, the typical "eat food" in response to weight gainer questions is pretty fuckin annoying and pretentious

i've relied on weightgainers both during maintenance AND bulking phases to meet caloric needs. 1) out of convenience and 2) having liquid meals are more beneficial during bulking phases since they do not provide as much a prolonged satiety effect as with eating whole foods, thus providing more incentive to eat more. the only worthwhile counter argument to buying weightgainers are cost-effective self made shakes as suggested (oats, PB, whey, etc.) which allows more control of macronutrient ratios, but essentially you're STILL relying on a type of liquid intake.

to the thread starter, look at the macronutrient breakdown of the products and compare with your insulin/carb sensitivity. the second factor i would take into account is taste. i've tried nlarge2, ON serious mass, ON procomplex, EAS myoplex, and a metrx product i can't exactly remember.

off those products in terms of taste, id rate procomplex banana cream and chocolate toward the top, followed by serious mass (chocolate), then nlarge 2 (chocolate)

That's a pretty bad excuse. Mail order a blender from a catalogue or something. They cost like £20 here in the UK.. probably even cheaper in the US. You don't need anything super-fancy. Any basic convenience store will have oats, peanut butter and milk. They're not exactly rare, hard-to-come-by items! If you don't get to shop often, buy them in bulk. I'm 100% sure it will still be cheaper than a tub of weight-gainer.

I think that there's a typical answer because most of those who ask for a weight gainer want a magic powder that'll make them broly. So they kinda lack in the normal food intake, the bust your ass in the gym department and recovery.

Wow, you guys are a bunch of presumptuous assholes. Believe it or not, I know that you need to "eat food" to gain, I've been lifting for 2 years and put on almost 50 lbs. The point of this thread is that I realized my caloric intake is too low and wanted an easy way to get some extra calories in between meals. Is it that hard to get an answer to a fucking simple question around here without everyone jumping down your throat?

PreemO, thanks for a useful response

use a MRP instead of a weight gainer.... ergopharm mass meal. chocolate fudge and banana cream are awesome!

i sometimes make this shake to take to school:

1 serving banana cream mass meal
    2 bananas
    2 cups milk
    2 tbsp natty pb

    SO GOOD.
