i haven't bought a video card in ages (just using a laptop) but i'm building a desktop next week when the i7's come out and it looks like these two are the top-o-the-line. From what i could gather, the 4870X2 usually got higher max FPS but the GTX 280 was usually close and had higher min FPS. but other things to consider are image quality and price (since the 280 is 100 bucks cheaper)

    thoughts?

depends if the games you play support Crossfire or not. If they don't the GTX will definitely pull ahead. But I'd still likely go for the X2.

That 280GTX is way too much money as well. They are suppose to be dropping to $380 here soon.

it's 430 plus a free copy of farcry 2. so that's somewhat close to 380 :mamoru:

Correct. Crysis for one won't play any better with the X2 over a regular 4870.
