Im seriously considering getting a new f150. They have been advertising them for around 12k in the paper, which is much less than I'll get for other trucks Ive been considering, like the tacomas and frontiers. I know its bigger, but thats not a big deal.. Any suggestions??

the 12k model is a strippy... Likely manual windows, locks, 2wd, v6, stick shift, etc. Good truck tho. Personally, I'd rather get the Chevy Silverado Work Truck for the same price....

But F-150/Silverado... both are excellent trucks... both with faults.... both with pros. Can't go wrong with either one.

It's too deep, imho.... It makes it difficult for anyone under 6'2" to reach over the side and get to something in the bed.

I own a 01 F150 and have had nothing but problems with it. I've owned this truck for around 1 year now and have had to spend about 3K to just keep it running. I've had to replace 2 coils on the 5th and 7th cylinder, an exhaust gasket, and a couple other things that are basic maintaince. It's a hassle to have to turn around every couple months and have your truck in the shop for a day getting work done to it.

Also Ford has a problem with their transmission having a shudder problem. At first I thought it was just mine, however when I researched it on a F150 forum I go to, several people are having the same thing as me.

Why not look at a used ranger? I owned a 99 ranger XLT and it gave me no problems what so ever, was a great truck. That's the reason I stayied with Ford when I went to a bigger truck.

If you are set a full-size truck, why not take a look at dodge?

that's a pretty stupid post considering the topic of this thread... CHEAP ($12k) trucks.

THey can be had in the mid upper teens (17k) and its a better truck.

He also said he was looking at 12k trucks.. didnt say that was his set in stone price range

Look at the crash test of a F150 he is looking at compared to a Mini. :mamoru:

not bad for 40mph :ugh: :ugh: :ugh: :ugh:

that is the OLD F150. The new F150 does VERY well in crash tests.

well, I might go a little higher than 12k to get a little more than base options, but this will be my first new vehicle ever, so Im not looking for every option..

only dodges that are worth the money have the cummins. Then you still have to put up with their crappy trans.

And when you consider the cost of the cummins, you could honestly go get a duramax with the allison, or a powerstroke with the torqshift.
