Well, battery life is going to be compared to how much light you get out of it. You're close to the price of a L4 or L2 and then you can use a rechargable Li Ion cell. Also what are you going to use the light for? The KL1 heads on that L1 are a faily tight spot pattern with little or no sidespill.

I'm just going to use it for every day stuff. However I want it ready to go at night in case I hear a noise and need to look around with the USP.

It's LED, bright as hell and small enough not to bother you in your pocket

The E1L will have similar high output to the L1 mentioned. About half the overall light as a E2D/E2E/G2 and almost no side spill. I'd recommend something with more spill/flood.

L2 and L4's are amazing lights, but they don't throw like the L1 and E1L mentioned. The problem is Surefire doesn't have a nice 3 watt reflector'd LED light that I'm aware of.

I just bought a Surefire E2D-BK Defender. Got it on Ebay for $70 NIB. 60 Lumens for 2.5 hours and it has the strike bezel (which is just cool :mamoru:).

I like my E2L Outdoorsman, good light and bats go forever (6 hrs, all things being relative with Surefires)

A2. Absolutely the best light Surefire has ever made, and no other company has made anything close to it even yet.

E2's not on par? That's the only $ureFire light I would like to own.

L4 is pretty good under $150 if you want a LED head. The L2 is great too, but you'll have to hunt or go used to get under $150 and it's sorta long. My L2 nearly unpocketed the A2.

That's another problem. Most everything else available off the shelf with a in between beam is using a 1 watt LED. Streamlight TL-2 LED and Pelican PM6 LED come to mind.

The new Cree LED's are looking absolutely amazing on paper. 80+ lumens when driven ~350 mA. I'm thinking a Cree in a Fenix P1 would make an excellent pocket light.

Is there any other modifications that would need to be done? It also seems pretty difficult to obtain one of the Crees.:dunno:

Well in a P1 the driver would need to be swapped IIRC to lower the drive current, then see how the reflector works. With the McR reflectors people are finding just shaving 0.005" off the bottom is enough to aim them correctly.

Lots of group buys going for them on CPF if they're still open.

Looks like I'd have to get on the waiting list. Reading through that forum reassures me as to just how little I know about flashlights.

Ya know I forgot all about that, and I've got one sitting my my desk right next to my computer. But the thing I don't like about it is how big it is. It's absolutely huge compared to an L4 sized light.

You read it right, although Fenix does rate their outputs a bit high. But I'd guess at least a true 100 out the front of the light. Those Cree's have really stepped up efficiency.
