I've found that I'm always the nice guy in games. I find it difficult to even pick the smartass dialogue choices in games like Fallout or Dragon Age.

Another example is the Little Sisters in Bioshock 1 & 2. I just can't bring myself to kill them. I always end up saving them.

I can't even imagine how this will play out with Heavy Rain and other games like it.

I tried to be nice in Fable 2 but I accidently hit the magic button in a crowd and killed 2 people in front of everyone. After that I just went around pillaging the village.

My first playthrough I always play the good guy. However, when I feel like its something thats necessary (like punching the reporter in ME2), I make some "bad" choices.

    kind of depends

most of the time I play a good guy, but if a bad guy has fun options instead of malevolently evil ones, I go that route

In ME1 and ME2 I had the most fun playing as a renegade, for example

most of the time i can't bring myself to play the bad guy, especially in games that make it so obvious (Infamous, for example). In games where it's not obvious what's "right" (Fallout 3, the tree man quest, for example) i try hard to think out the possible outcomes and come to the correct resolution.

I guess i could consider it training for real life. you practice quickly choosing the "right" thing and suppressing the inclination to take the easy/selfish path.

I usually go good because of its rewards. Sometimes devs don't offer any alternatives which kind of annoys me.

Take for example Dragon Age. If you do certain bad tasks you could end up losing party members, to which there is no replacement for. If they would have offered up some total evil asshole in replacement of that character then it wouldn't be an issue to make the bad choice.

Dragon Age is rather ambiguous though. Granted, the choice to defile the ashes is a rather clear cut one. However, most of the other paths in the game hard no purely good or bad choice.

I get what you mean though. All but 1 ally can leave your party depending on the choices you make in the game and that's only if you did the quest to recruit that one in the first place.

    Good side.

I picked most of the good choices in KOTOR and after beating it tried again with the Dark Side but I stopped playing shortly thereafter.

i think it's just a way to make you play the game twice for different achieves (or in Fallout 3's case, three times)

I thought you can actually lose 2 depending on the situations. And a different quest can lose you another certain character...

But you are right about it being ambiguous. That quest you mentioned is more about faith than good or evil.

On that one you can lose two.

What I meant was, over the course of the game the dog is the only one that doesn't have some sort of crisis point, everyone else can leave at some point.

    Yeah, pretty much.

My default is "nice and helpful with everyone, unless I'm provoked... in which case, it really sucks to be you."
