(tried this in the main forum, came up empty)

I'm thinking of buying a PDA. I bought a Sony Clie a couple years ago, but returned it because I didn't think I'd use it enough.

Now I have a job that sometimes makes me juggle several projects, own a home, and I find myself forgetting a lot of things.

Features I need are pretty basic. Calendar, To do list, play MP3s, all basic stuff.

Features that would be bonus would be WiFi, bluetooth, and run decent programs.

So what is the difference between a pocketPC like an iPaq and a Palm based PDA?

    Some models I'm looking at:

    HP iPaq RZ1710 203MHz 32MB Pocket PC

    Dell Axim X5 64MB 400MHz Pocket PC

PalmOne Tungsten E 32MB Handheld PDA

    None of the above.

    ipaq 4150
    Dell axim X30 high
    Dell axim X50 Mid
    Dell Axim X50v High

Those are the ones you should look at. I highly recommend the X50v (499 retail, ~400 with dell's sales.)

I'm selling an iPaq RX3115 including 256mb SD Ultra II card for $240 shipped.

Does absolutely everything you have listed above.

Oh, my budget is under $320 CDN (~$275 US) max.

What are some advantages that a pocketPC has over a Palm?

    then mine is perfect!

You can watch movies on it, browse the internet, listen to music... pretty much anything a regular PC can do except 3d gaming or file sharing and stuff

there's even Pocket Word and Excel where you can edit documents and spreadsheets and stuff

i have both a palm and an ipaq. the only advantage for me to the ipaq is that it has a terminal services client for connecting to desktop machines and servers, but you can always do VNC on the palm if you have the option of what goes on the machines you're connecting to...if you even need to do that.

depends how bad ass you need it.

I need just for basic function date book contacts etc so my zire 31 is fine for me, but if you want anything other than a glorified date book it's not for you.

Ok, I think its down to the Palm Tungsten E2, the Palm Zire 72 and the HP iPAQ RZ1710.

    Anybody own any of these?

FIrst off, read my post above. The ipaq you listed is the absolute worst, you should really read up on reviews. If you want palm, I'd suggest the 72...but really, look at the dells. Best PDAs out right now IMO. And this is from someone that has owned 4-5 Palm OS devices and 5 PPCs.

    PDA suggestion

You know, I have a Garmin I-Que 3600, which is basically a Palm PDA with GPS. The current model is called a 3200 now, I think. Mine is 2-3 old.
    http://www.garmin.com/products/iQue3200/

I got mine right after they hit the streets, two of them actually, one for my gal. They were not perfect, numerous times they froze and had to be reset, very frustrating. Sometimes, it takes the GPS 4-5 mins to find signal.

All that said, I can't imagine not having it. It is more than GPS, the ability to be anywhere, punch in an address, receive all the info you need in addition to a very intuitive route to get you there - amazing.

They have the new M5 out, link below, don't know if it is worth the cost and if the bells/whistles truly bring much to the party.

That's just way too much for my budget.

Dell canada is having a 10 days of deals sale starting today, so hopefully they put up a good deal on an Axim. If they do, I'll buy it and return the E2.

Is Dell's '10 days of deals' usually really really good deals?

I'm planning on returning my Tungsten E2 and ordering a x30 with Wifi, but right now Dell has a 15% off deal that expires tomorrow and I'm not sure if I should roll the dice and see if they have a better deal coming on this 10 days of deals thing.

In case nobody cares, Dell had a killer deal on, and I bought a x30h for $299 CAN with free shipping. I'm hoping to get it by the end of the week (damn customs), but more likely will have to wait until monday or tuesday.
