    I have:

    ASUS A8N-SLI Socket 939
    AMD 3800+ Venice
    Patriot 2x512mb PC3200

Should I upgrade the processor to this:
    AMD Athlon 64 FX-55 San Diego 2.6GHz 1MB L2 Cache Socket 939 Processor - OEM

Or get 2x1gb sticks of ram?

I do basic stuff: burning, downloading, photoshop/illustrator/web design stuff, and the occasional computer game.

I think for gaming you will be more happy with more ram.

While a faster processor does help for gaming they usually only serve two purposes

    1. Video editing/animation amd encoding.

    2.To enlarge the e-penis.

    This is incorrect.

If you only play older games, I bet they don't even take up the existing 1GB. Check your RAM usage while the game is running.

More importantly, check your RAM usage while mid-graphics edit, while playing an .mp3 and with several web pages open. That's likely to be the most taxing thing you do.

If you're maxing your 1GB with current tasks, get more RAM now. If you are not, get the processor.

I was just quoting from prior experience also if you are cofortable with it you could overclock the exsisting processor and get better performance.

I totally agree if you are playing older games then by all means get a more powerful processor.

As noted, I'm not a hardcore gamer, nor do I play really graphical intensive games.
