I've heard lower back, glutes, and hamstrings. I only feel it in my lower back though (my hamstrings are pretty strong, maybe that's why?). Am I doing it wrong, or is this normal?

BTW, I did 5x225 on my 4th set tonight...personal best :) (keep in mind I was deadlifting ~100lb about 2 months ago)

    lower back

if you want to feel it in your hamstrings, widen your stance

I actually prefer to not work my hamstrings too hard on back day because I do legs the next day. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't doing it wrong.

nice improvement. Whole posterior chain is going to be hit, so basically along the lines of what you said

Almost exclusively your lower back, but depending on your stance and form you can theoretically hit your hams and glutes just as hard.

I took a few weeks off because of the stomach flu/cold, but no injuries . I'd be lifting more if I was bulking, but I'm cutting more than anything and I focus on perfect form (last thing I want to do is injure myself during DL. Either way, that's a nice gain for 1 month :)

Not to highjack the thread, but what are some things I can do to improve grip on this. I pulled 365x2 the other day, I know I could do more, but I can't hold on to the damn bar. :(

edit - maybe i'm using them wrong, but they kind of slide when im using them. i can feel them loosening and rather than drop the weight on the ground, i just set it back down before i found out what happens.

:hsugh: You may want to start doing some static holds and farmer's walks, because that is horrendous.

The only time I ever use straps is when I am doing shrugs and that is because of the jerking motion and lack of regrip ability. Hell, I did some speed work this week with the 2" fat bar and a pronated grip. I had to regrip, about half way through the set though. I really need to get some chalk so I can stop using straps altogether.
