I've been using a dual-monitor setup for Lightroom work but it's less than ideal. One Samsung 24" T240 and one Samsung 22" 2232BW. They've been calibrated with a Spyder 3 Pro but they still seem off of eachother.

I'd like to move to two identical 24" monitors with 1920x1200 resolution. I'm looking for a non-gimmicky monitor (no unnecessary styling/inputs/outputs/etc) that just produces the best static contrast and has good adjustability for calibration w/ the Spyder 3. What would you guys recommend?

The ones I've been looking at are the Dell 2407 and 2408WFP's. What kind of LCD panels are out there?

I use two 20 inch Dell widscreen ultralsharps. Would love to have two 24 inch apple or a single 30 incher. That's not a necessary purchase right now though, so I don't see that happening any time soon.

Dell 2407, and an HP 17" that happened to be around.
I regret not getting a 30" up front though. Something to think about if you're starting clean.

So IPS is the best LCD tech out there right now?

I'm debating over one Dell 30" versus two 24" of whatever brand. I like Lightroom's dual-screen layout and not sure I can afford the extra cash for a 30". But this upgrade isn't exactly a necessity either so I dunno.

    :eek3: These IPS monitors aren't cheap! So the question is this: is one 30" > two 24" or 2 24" > 1 30"?

Keep in mind that photography is a hobby or part-time job at best so I'll mostly be doing other shit for college that dual monitors would be better for.

Is you hp calibrated? If so can you get me your icc profile. I calibrated my again and it is giving me a pink/reddish hue to all the pictures i export.

they are the best for color reproduction, not so good for gaming. I got the IPS panel since I'm hoping to make a business out of photography but for a hobbiest I don't think it makes much sense to dump that kind of money into one.

Yeah, i have a huey pro that calibrates it. make sure you are using your ICC profile as your color when you export pictures - i was just having this problem (see my chiropractor headshot thread)

my calibration may differ from yours though because of my lighting, and individual panels are different, but if you want to try it out go ahead.

    Thanks

Yea i saw that thread, but i think the spyder3 i used to calibrate the monitor is the problem as i can see the reddish hue on my desktop icons :dunno: So using the icc profile when i export still gives me the reddish tone.

i'll see if your profile helps. :wiggle: thanks again.

LOL you can't use someone else's profile. The profile is specific to your exact monitor and lighting conditions at the time of calibration.

24" imac as my main monitor. 17" ViewSonic as my secondary. I never bother to calibrate the smaller monitor as it only holds my menus and crap.

20" ACD and would occasionally run in dual screen mode with a 15" MBP or just by itself. :hs:
