Any reason you're going so cheap? Those lenses are horrible quality.

    Currently I have a D40x with a Nikkor DX AF-S 18-135mm f3.5-5.6G

and to be quiet honest, photography is more of a very occasional hobby of mine. (whenever I go to someplace special - i'll bring the camera)
So I can't really justify spending 300-400 on a lens.

I want something with a bit more zoom, I considered that 200mm but i didn't think it'd be much of an improvement over my 135mm

if you don't have 300-400 for at least the ED version of the 70-300, don't get anything right now.

if you want to get a 300mm zoom, the 70-300 f/4-5.6 VR is pretty sharp. slow of course, but you're going to have to spend A LOT to get a fast zoom

-edit- ^^^^ yes, that's the ED version
