    128MB DDR ATI's MOBILITY™ RADEON™ 9700 AGP 8X Graphics
    60GB Hard Drive at 7200RPM

    Option 2

    Inspiron 8600
    Intel® Pentium® M Processor 745 (1.8GHz),
    15.4in WUXGA
    512MB,333MHz 1 DIMM

I am basically looking for a computer for college. I want something that has the best performance . It will spend most of its time plugged in, but I will use it without the AC adapter , so battery is an issue.

    Thanks for any recommendations

option 2 will give you way more battery life. The Pentium mobile chips(dothan) are also faster than the non-mobile chips in most tests.
Option # 2 all the way for me.

How much is dell charging you for the ram upgrade? It could be a lot cheaper to go with kingston or crucial.
