That depends on what you need it to do. Are you just setting up a basic home theater? Do you have any special needs such as component video switching, etc?

its a slow process to setting up a basic home theatre, I am going to buy the speakers I need at some point after I get this for xmas hopefully. And will be plugging the tv, xbox ps2 and dvd player into it. But hopefully by spring I can afford a projector..

Well, in that case, you will probably want a reciever that has 2 sets of component video switching on it. Unless the projector you are going to get has more than 3 inputs. The problem with that though, is you have to spend like 1000 dollars to get a receiver that offers 3 sets of component video switching. Another option is you could run the PS2 off of s-video or something :dunno:

    cheap ones to check out

    NAD AV711
    Nakamichi AV-10 (look used)
    Marantz SR-4000

I'm looking at just a 2 channel preamp/ amp integrated, and i'm looking around $1000-1500 but i've checked out all those receivers in the past and they were decent..

I own a Nak AV-8 I got for $300 used 2 years ago, and it's been awesome for the price... beats the $1000 denon at the time.... The only denon i can stand is the pma-2000ivr... decent but a tad overpriced.

Def go with the onk 501. Big dollar sound without spending big dollars. You can get it new for under $300 or do like most people do that get it and go to ecost.com and get a factory refurb for $189. That's what I did and it looks brand spankin new.

There's a site too... not sure which it is... that right now if you order the denon 1803.. they automatically upgrade it to the 1804 cuz they r out of stock of the 1803.

But go with the onkyo. You will not be disappointed.

That doesn't look bad. It all depends on what you want. You will get better quality of you buy other speakers and not a HTIB.

You can hook all that stuff up to the onk 501. With either component video, S-video or composite video. I have my tv, vcr, dvd player, ps2 and computer all hooked up to mine.
