    looking for a decent laptop/notebook. which should i stay away from. i've found all kinds of deals but what would OT recommend. trying to keep it around $1000.

    for $1k, you can look nearly anywhere to find a decent deal. Keep an eye on techbargains.com and you should come across something pretty soon.

    why do people keep recommending dell? they are crap! you can tell by touching them! if youre going to spend hundreds of dollars on a complex machine, get one that doesnt feel like fisherprice!

    get an asus from proportable.com

    you may want stay away from dell; 25% faliure rate on their laptops

    Bought there M5:6 there, have LOVED it. I did have the harddrive fail on me, so they overnighted me a replacement, very good customer service.

    They do tend to be a slightly higher end laptop company though. At least when I bought mine, they didn't have laptops under 1000 dollars.
